Gravid Female Will Not Eat

Hey guys,

I had a female gecko that wasnt eating, but it was just because she was ovulating, once i put her in with a male she began to pound food, she then stopped eating laid 2 duds 1 week after (that was her first clutch)...she is producing more eggs but will not eat..any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone?

From what I've read on other posts, she should be fine. Some females will stop eating. But will start again after they lay. See if she starts eating after she lays her next clutch.

I hope so, i just want her to eat to get some nutrients in her so she can produce good eggs and i dont want her to die either..

Also make sure you are providing her with a dish of calcium. Eggs take a lot out of them & if she is low on calcium, the eggs will start to pull calcium from her body. It might also help to leave a dish of mealworms/superworms in with her as well. That way she can pick at them if she wants, that is if you already don't.

My female was gravid when I got her, and didn't eat for about 5-6 days before she laid.

After she did though, she went to town!

If it goes on for a long time, yeah, you might want to worry, but give it a week or so, and I bet she'll be back to champ eater status.

Alex, what are your hot spot temps for the girl? I keep my breeding girls around 95.

the thermostat reads 94, so its probably around 92, ill check with my temp gun tomorrow..its actually my female whiteout that i bred to my male zero that wont eat.. its frustrating and scary...

Yeah.... that's a project you don't want any duds on. I would seperate her also if you haven't all ready.

Yea, she is all alone, but started producing more eggs today..im going to offer some more supers and crickets tomorrow..maybe she will have a change in heart..

wow thats a huge load off my chest! :main_laugh:

Ill try to get her to eat a pinky or two over the weekend...i want her to eat crickets before i feed her some pinkys..
