Great Stuff

I was just wondering if anyone has used this product and if it dries rock hard? I've waited probably around 6 hours now and its solid, but it is squishy. Obviously I have no intentions of putting it in anytime soon (until it completely dries) but I was just wondering if it is any good?

Thanks, Ryan

yep! I see some people using it for backgrounds and stuff so I figured it would be hard, but oh well I guess I'll just see

Are you referring to the expanding foam? Like the stuff from home depot that you use to fill cracks in your home like insulation?

if its the great stuff with the bio seal than it does stay a little squishy for awhile but should pretty much harden up after a day or two. I used it when building my friends dart frog viv and it took longer to harden than I though it would.

When using the spray foam do you have to grout it or can you use something different or just leave it like it is?

I left it like it was, well actually i put coconut fiber in it so that it didnt just look like great stuff, but that was for looks only.

This is the stuff https://www.chooserenewables.com/xcart/images/P/Great-Stuff-250.jpg
It also comes in a black can for large gaps. http://hotdogjam.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/great-stuff1.jpg
It does not dry rock hard but it does get pretty hard. I use it in almost all of my display tanks. the great thing about it is when it is dry you can shave it and cut it to almost any shape you like.

A good thing to do is use silicone along with the coco fiber when covering over the great stuff. it gives it a nice naturalistic look and a good seal. work in small sections with the silicone applying with a glove before it starts to dry apply the coco fiber.

You want to let it all dry and air out usually it is a 2 or 3 day project.

It dried pretty much rock hard, so I am going to use the rock like spray paint and leave it for a week or two

Just a quick question; would it be ok to just paint the foam background with water based spraypaint, let it dry and then spray it with water based polycrylic protective finish so you don't have to coat with silicone?

All I know is when silicone dries it is like rubber and holds up to the conditions of a vivarium quite well . Wet or dry. I'm not sure how those other things will hold up and if they will start braking down in your animals environment.

ok; some people are saying they also use pva glue mixed with some sand to seal it and give it texture. What kind of glue is that? is that just plain white glue or what?
