Well after a long hiatus I have returned! I have been in college, getting a fisheries conservation degree on my way to a possible herpetology masters. I have been caring for my leos all this time but have put off breeding until I was sure I had the time I wanted to invest. What are the ideal weights for my females and males before putting them together? They are in a rack system so I was also curious about when to breed, do they need a cooling period, etc.

Generally males and females should be at least a year old and weigh at least 50 grams. They do not need to be cooled. Breeding season is usually from about Feb. to Aug. but obviously it depends on when the females ovulate. I put my males in with the females mid-Jan and keep them together throughout the breeding season. This season I got my first eggs mid Feb and they hatched mid April.

I'm just now getting eggs, and today is Wensday may 11. So it also depends atmosphere, elevation, beacuse I am in north eastern washington, almost Canadian boarder in the mountains, I believe that is one reason why my Leo's breeding season is just know starting. Plus, I put them through a late cooling season, wich some people don't do cooling seasons. But I think it helps. The male should be at least 55 grams and the female should be at least 50, both should be older than one year old.
