Hey everyone. My name is Adam. I currently live in Florida and have a fairly large private collection of herps. I have 30 different species and morphs of snakes and two leos. Just had my first set of eggs from them. Bell snow het eclipse. They're still sitting in the incubator and have around 50 days to go yet. Omg the waiting is killing me! :) But my question is when is the best time to candle the eggs? Around how many days after laying or before hatching. I have an egg timer on them set for about another 50 days out yet. Breeding females if I can this round.

Welcome, Adam! This is my first year breeding also! You should be able to candle them after a week successfully. I suggest marking the top of the eggs so you put them back exactly as they were so the embryos don't drown. Also, that way you'll know if when one of hatchlings move an egg when it hatches and you can right it. [emoji4]

Leopard gecko eggs aren't like snake eggs. The embryo's don't attach themselves to the tops of the eggs. You don't need to mark the tops of the eggs. Welcome to the forum!! :)

I have read in many places that leopard gecko eggs do need to be marked so they don't get turned. I have never heard anywhere that they don't need to be kept in the same position, except that in the first day or so it's not a problem if they get turned.
