Which one should I use to make my hides, is there a difference? I see most people use the non sanded grout, how come? I've been looking at Home Depot and I only seem to find sanded grout. Thanks :)

I think it would matter some in the long run as constant misting of non-sanded grout over time (maybe 2-3 years) could degrade the grout and it could crumble. Sanded grout is recommended for thinner lines because it dries harder than non-sanded grout, and is more durable, more like cement versus plaster if ya get my meaning...

That's what I'm using right now - Mod Podge. Just waiting for it to dry completely so I can put the new structure inside his tank :)

You could also prob use a good cement sealer. I thought modge podge was water based and could eventually wear off.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier, but sanded is the only choice for something herp related. The non-sanded stuff will crack. (I'm a contractor, so grout I know...)

Yeah, I kinda figured. It's a bit of a no brainer once you get into it... the sanded looks better, and the only reason to ever use unsanded is when you have tiny joints or the tile is so soft that you might scratch it with the sand. Good call...

nice hides! I think its neat to have custom made stuff, i love originality! good job! wish I had the ambition to try it myself

Thanks, it was really easy. I know they're not the best, but it's pretty good for my first 2! :) I was amazed at how simple it is to make them - you should give it a try!
