Growth Rate concerns

Sorry if this is the wrong spot. I didnt know if this is a feeding/medical/general care issue or not.

so when I bought by two leos the were the same size. about 3 inchs long and from the looks of it under weight. After a day or two their tails plumpd back up but i noticed a big change in size when you compare the two.

My main Question is whats a normal growth rate. I bought a scale about 2 weeks after the gecko's so i don't know how much they weighed at purchase. The little guy is about 15 grams and about 3 months old and the big guy is 25g at the same age?? The lil guy has gaind 4 grams in a week and a half and the big guy 8gram in the same time. Were the people that said they came from the same clucth wrong? Do runts exsist in geckos?

He eats fine (the lil guy) about 5-6 mealies when i watch + he's got his tub full of them in his cage. I know he's eating them outa it because i've caught him a few times. His poop looks fine, solid, slimy, very poop like. I havnt seen any runny watery poo's or puke, or half digested mealies.

Should i be concerned at all? He Looks proportionate to the big buy just shorter. That reminds me, The big one is already about 5 inchs long and the lil guy is sill under 4 1/2'' When I bought them I was told 2-3 months old, this was feb 13th. could one just be older then the other so he hit the growth spurt already?

Thats one of the things that happen when you buy from a pet store. They reaslly don't know how old they are. With a breeder you can get the hatchdate ect.........
I am going to guess that the bigger one is older then the smaller one. I wuldn't be too concerned about it. As long as they are both not males.

At about what age/size should I be checking? One book I have says how to check but not when. The other book I have says you can look with a magnifying glass if so when I checked mine are girls.(don't know why I keep saying "he") I was thinking more on the when its sexually mature side tho.

I can usually get a good idea of sex around 15-20 grams.

Some geckos just seem to get bigger than others. Last season I had 2 clutchmates who were housed separately after the first month and fed the same. By 3 months, one was 42 grams and one was 28.

Geckos develop at different rates. Also, if you have them shused together, I would suggest separating them. First of all, if you have two males, they will eventually fight. If they are a male and female, they WILL breed whether you want them to or not... even if they are not old/big enough. Another possiblility is that the older/larger of the two can bully or intimidate the smaller one which causes stress and loss of appetite.

Females will still have "dimples", they are no where near what a male wouild look like. A male will have "pores".

Looks like you have two females. You can still have bullying issues with females. So if they are not seperated I suggest that you do, asap.

Diddo to Marcia's reply. If they are together you can have competition. Not all geckos will grow at the same rate. I have had some that never get over 60 grams and others that shoot up to 90 grams by their first 10 months..It all depends. Some will just eat more than others. From the thickness of the tails they look a little more mature. They look like females to me...:)
