Last night I came home to one of my babies (just at one month old), with absolutely no tail! :main_thumbsdown:

Not a tip missing, but all the way to his little behind. I was so furious.

Anyone else ever have this happen? The cuplrit in question eats like a pig and is always well fed...

What ticks me off even more is that I had decided to seperate b/c I thought the PIG was hogging all the food, so the tail was lost just hours before I pulled the smaller one...GRRRRRR

Anywho, just had to rant and was curious if this was a common problem. Guess I'll be housing individually from now on :main_angry:

I hadn't had this problem but has a rule I always keep all mine separate, but I'm sure it's a luck of the draw some fight and bully together and some don't.

Aww, sorry about the tail! We haven't lost any tails yet (knock on wood) but I'm way too paranoid to keep any hatchlings together.

Awww sorry to hear this happened.

Good rule to go by is to seperate them every week according to size if you are going to keep clutchmates together. Since I built more hatchling racks last summer and over the winter I don't even put clutchmates together anymore, just my idea of being more on the safe side, by not houseing them together at all.

Thanks for the response everyone. Definately won't be housing any more together!

Poor little stub tailed thing...he looks like a little doberman or something that got it's tail whacked off.

I had a friend who claimed that one hathcling tried to completely eat another one once. She said that she ran out of tiny mealworms and crickets so they went a few days without food. Then one hatchling ate another one to the point where only the tail and back feet were left to be swollowed. She then pulled the dead hatchling out of the other one. Im not sure how old they were, maybe a weeks difference in size. Ive only had one gecko fight and it was between an unreceptive female and a male. The female bit his tail off, and then he attacked his own tail as it flopped around the tank. :main_lipsrsealed: I plan on building a rack soon so that I dont have to worry about fights.

Thanks again everyone. Just a quick update...little 'stubby' (until named...LOL) is doing well...I've been hand feeding him and she's now spoiled rotten. In other words, gets cranky unless I'm holding her. And she's a blizzard no less!

So, hopefully everything will be ok! But still, let this be a warning to everyone! ;)
