Im using a 36 inch viv with 6 small tubs in for my leo hatchlings and ive got a heat strip going all the way along it at the back underneath the tubs. However, the temperature in the tubs keeps fluctuating. Im using a habistat pulse stat, im thinking maybe the stats faulty but im also wondering if its because its in a viv and theres alot of air around the mat and above the tubs? Sounds stupid but i dont wanna buy a new stat if its something else. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm going to take a guess that if the air temperature is changing fast and often, maybe the thermostat can't keep up. Two things to try: monitor the air temp over time, and also consider making the enclosure more airtight or wrapping some sort of insulation around it. (Also consider buying a hobovator)

As added "peace of mind" I have two thermometer just in case one was malfunctioning and don't forget to calibrate it.

Sometimes, you get what you pay for. For my incubator and cages, I went ahead and spent the $$ on a good proportional thermostat (Herpstat) and couldn't be more happy then that. It was great and yes, i have an additional thermometer to verify temps.
