Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and I recently picked up a Halmahera Giant Gecko. While trying to transport him into his new cage, he was being very aggressive and was biting. Could this be due to the fact he was stressed out? I was also wondering if they can eat fruit and if so, what kind. Thanks.

Hello! I too am a new Halmahera owner. From what I have read and heard, they can be aggressive when provoked or stressed-such as transport/holding. Mostly they are just skittish and super fast. I have had mine for just under a week and she has calmed down greatly. However I am no where close to being able to handle her, nor am I sure we will ever get to that point.

I have found a lot of contradicting info on how much fruit vs insects they should get. I plan on feeding mine mostly insects with offering fruits as an option for her occasionally. I hear they are very fond of bananas (mine has not shown interest in them yet-but loves hornworms). They can also be given mango, papaya, honey and bee pollen.

I would love to hear how your little one is getting along and hear how you are keeping yours, since I'm new to this species.
