Just wondering if this is a bad thing? I mean, if the human is pregnant?

well its known that a prego woman shouldnt handle anything that can bite and puncture the skin out of fear for direct bacteria going into the blood stream wich in case goes to baby... rodents are the bigest of no nos... lizards... well ill put it to you like this... if they are tame and run next to no chance of biting, then you should be all set... my wife is 24 weeks prego and handles our geckos with comfort... and trust me she wouldnt do anything to risk the baby... so if its a nipper i wouldnt but if your 99.999999% sure it wont, you should be fine... this is just my opinion though ;)

i was on a exotic option at my college and one of the first things our teacher says was if you are preg or at any time think you might be tell us as soon as you can due to the fact the salmolila that all reptiles carry can kill both baby and mother you dont need to get bitten open cuts anything on your skin can let it in...

we all thought it was abit odd and not many people belived it out of that group 2 people fell preg and they where not alowed in the reptile room at all

Hmmm, you'll prob get 50/50 answers on this. If you think about it, look at all the vets or people who work in the vet field/zoos with reptiles etc that get preg.
I have two little ones and just made sure I washed my hands/fore arms good after cleaning/handling, which I do anyhow, so it was not a big change for me. We don't have to live in bubbles while pregnant. You could also get bit by a dog or cat or cut yourself with a knife while slicing up chicken for dinner.
Check with a midwife for some opinions. Also check mothering.com under pregnancy on a search for reptiles/pregnancy.

Don't lick your hands after a reptile poops in/on your hands.. And.. Just wash your hands very well after holding any animals.. You will be fine.

It all boils down to : Do you need to RISK it, no matter what percentage or who has done it without a problem?
There is no guarantee of having no troubles with birthing, handling or not handling a reptile.................... but if you handled them and there is.....
who would you put the blame on?..Or your mate? There is only one way to answer this............Your way.......but why add risk?
take care HJ
