I handle all of my geckos right out of the egg, LOL! Each gecko will have a different tolerance for handling, so the important thing to keep in mind is their stress level. If they fight you, just take you time and be patient. In most cases, the older the gecko is and the more often you handle them, the tamer they will become.

Thanks MArcia. I am sooo in love withthe girls I purchased from you. You bring up great points and I appreicate the advise. AS a rule of thumb (I know each animal is different), how often can I handle the gecko? Daily, weekly, for 5 minutes sessions, etc. I know this truly depends on the animal.

Ours usually scratch at the front of their tub when they want to come out. They get to stay out until they start getting crazy and running around. Sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 30. We usually try to handle them for at least a couple of minutes every day when we're cleaning their tubs too.

I pick up and hold my adults several times a night (I run to see my geckos every commercial break, whoever is out will be picked up ;)). I let them stay on my hand as long as they want to; but once they start moving around I'll put them back in their tank.

My little one freaks out if I try to pick her up. If I put my hand in her cage she freezes on the spot and if I advance slowly toward her she runs away. She spends most of her time in her hides. If she sees anyone besides me she won't even come out. I have had her about a month now. What can I do to make her more sociable and friendly towards me I am afraid if I was to need to help her with a shed or anything I wouldnt be able too.

Usually when they're babies, they're real skittish and you basically have to chase them around the cage to pick them up. That's okay to an extent. I would just chase her once a day until you catch her and then hold her for 5 min. or less. Gradually, as she gets older and used to being handled, you can hold her for longer periods of time. ;)

LOL! I have one like that too!

All of my males are very chilled out and all of my females that've laid eggs are chill too.
