Happy birthday, Tommy!

I can't believe our sweet bully boy turned 7 yesterday. His mom was scheduled to have her puppies on Valentine's day in '04 but he decided that he didn't want to wait. She went into labor in the middle of the night on Feb. 13th and he was the first puppy out. She actually had them all naturally, no c-section. He was diagnosed with Megaesophogus at 3 weeks old and wasn't supposed to make it. That's why he looked like such a runt! Time flies because it seems like just yesterday he looked like this -

And now we've got a big Chihuahua bed stealing dog who just wants to sleep, snore, pass gas, itch his ears and butt, and occasionally chew on a new toy. LOL But we love him!

My dad use to have a British Bull(she was a gorgeous Brindle). She, too, was very un-lady like, and would pass gas all the time. It was rather comical at the beginning, but eventually it became a problem. She started vomiting, so he took her to the vet and found out that she had Canine Chronic Gastritis. The condition was later linked to Neoplasia... unfortunately, they didn't catch it in time. She was only 5 when she passed away. She was my dad's little buddy, and she went with him to all his doctor's appointments, and dialysis treatments. Once my dad had Sparkles* put down, he passed away from heart failure. It was, I believe, a combination of both his diabetes and losing his dog. He died two months to the date of her passing.


* Sparkles got her name when my dad brought her home. He got her on July 3rd... my nieces, who were 8 and 10 at the time, had some sparklers for the 4th. Sparkles knocked the youngest niece down and attacked the sparkler...putting it out. She then went and did the same to the 10 year old. Thus, my dad named her Sparkles. LOL!
