I just got back from college and found that my leopard gecko has a large lump under her chin. I thought it was an abcess or something but its really hard. Ive only been home for a day, so I dont know how she is eating. She looks rather skinny, so im guessing shes not beacuse it hurts. My mom said she has been shedding more than normal recently, but she hasnt paid attention to her eating habits.

Heres some pictures of it:

Another thing that worries me is that her tongue looks swollen and white, except for the tip which is still normal. hard to see in the pictures, but you get the general idea.

As for the environment, her tank hasnt been cleaned since I left(more than a month ago), so its pretty dirty. I think I should take her to a vet, but as it is sunday there is nothing I can do right now. Any help or advise will be GREATLY appreciated!

wow, ive never seen something like that. I completely agree that a vet visit is needed, is there a vet you can call with it being a sunday?
wow im sorry you had to come back home to that, does it look injured at all, like its swollen from being attacked or banged? or is it definitely a growth?

I hope a vet can help you tomorrow.

From my personal experience, it looks like some sort of cellular overgrowth, aka a turmor or mass, possibly cancerous. A vet visit is definitely in order as soon as possible. until then, I would just leave her be and try to make her as comfortable as possible because it's likely very painful. Good luck! Keep us posted.

Ellie's death

I figured I'd post an update. Sadly Ellie(my gecko) has died. It ended up being an abscess, which we had removed. They said she might still have the infection in her, and she did because after recuperating she formed another lump. When I was at school my mom informed me she had died.
This is one of the saddest things I have gone through, and I hope that if people were to know more about this they could act sooner than I was able and save their animals. Please let anyone know who may have a reptile, Thank you.

Sincerely, Rain

Sorry to hear that. Poor Ellie. I've never seen anything like this before. That was an immense lump! You took some amazing photos. You've enriched the gecko world with pictures of a disease that's out there that no one knows much about. Maybe someone whose gecko has a similar problem will see that and be able to take it to the vet in early stages and save it in time. So it wasn't in vain. Thank you!

Hello,
Pictures aren't available anymore. May you please send them to me. I would like to see what the lump looked like.

My leopard gecko has a lump too and the vet I went to doesn't seem experienced. They didn't know what to do.

Thanks
