i am sure i am not alone when i say i need more space lol!! the question i have is has any one put an under tank heater on top of there racks for two more tubs? and can i hook the uth into my herpstat that is running the heat cable for the rack?
I don't have a AP rack, but I would put something between the rack and UTH myself incase of the heat warping or discoloring the rack. Home depot and lowes sell small pieces of 1/8 ply that'd work.
You surely could hook into the herpstat, but I assure you the temps won't be the same as your rack. You hopefully will get hotter temps and could use a dimmer to reduce the heat.
Eric, if you are referring to putting a glass, aquarium style tank with a UTH on top of your A/P racks, I do it... but it will raise the air temps in your top tubs. Just make sure you have those little 'bumpers' on the bottom of each corner of your tanks so there is plenty of air flow between the tanks and the top of the rack.
what i was thinking is putting the uth directly on the top of the rack...and then putting two more tubs on top of it. i don't think it well hurt the top of the rack do you guys? i am think its kinda like using heat tape but not as hot..the cobra under tank heat pads claim they only get up to 100 degrees..and with my new TEMP gun so far they're right what do you guys think?
100 degrees isn't bad at all... some get WAY hotter from my experience with them over the last 20 years. I had one get well over 130 about 12 years ago when my reostat shorted out.
