I candled it today, it's day 65, at 83-84 degrees. The egg has become very soft, and on one spot there's a little patch of white "mucus" or whatever, I think it may be a slit opening, or the egg's gone bad. Can you guys please help me big time as to what's happening? I'm worrying like crazy....I think it's gone bad!

Well if it turned soft then my guess is that it has gone bad. However try and cook the eggs until it rots. That is the only way to know for sure.

I will. I read in another forum that this one person felt the egg go soft a day before hatching, but the mucus has gotten me stumped. Thank you Nicholas for the fast reply.

I just had an egg hatch that I was sure wasn't going to hatch. It's a group of 4 eggs, 2 clutches and while one clutch is huge and looks good, the eggs from the other clutch hadn't grown much and were starting to collapse, one more than the other. Plus, when I picked them up, there was a crease in the bottom. The last time I saw that, the baby was dead. Imagine my surprise last night when the one that looked the worst hatched out a gorgeous, small albino baby. The moral of the story is, leave the eggs alone in the incubator till they shrivel or stink. You may get a nice surprise, but it's not always possible to know in advance. Good luck.

Thanks Aliza for that story, what do you think the mucus means? It may be a very small slit, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Thanks ^^, what you wrote calmed me down a bit. And if it does go bad, there's always next season, eh?
