Hatchling usually do not eat for the first 5-7 days. I've had some eat the day after they hatch, and then had some that wouldn't eat for 10 days after they hatched. They usually shed within the first 5-7 days.

i have found out that generally, once they have shed (the first few days of life to about a week) and you give them a day or so they will be ready to eat. you can tell they have shed when you see the "poop cork" (which is their first shed) it is generally an odd looking poo for a gecko and sometimes has a greenish tint. once you have seen one poop cork, they are easy to tell. so after the first poo they should be ready to eat :D

Do you mean the gecko or the hide box?

i keep hatchlings in shoe box sized boxes. normally i do not add a humid hide until a bit later but i make sure and mist them once every other day and make sure they have a fresh water supply.
