It's already pre moistened so you dont have to add water but I do still just a little.

Is it good? I usually use vermiculite but fed up of having to add water all the time, plus i lost some eggs using it.

I've used Hatch Rite before when I was given a couple of free bags of it. It works fine, but vermiculite works just as good and it's cheaper. You should not have to add any water to your container when using vermiculite. What sort of containers do you use to incubate your eggs? Do you have any air holes in the container? Does your incubator have a fan? Just trying to help ;=)

How often should you change hatch rite? Do you add water to it? I use a plastic container with one air hole in it. I thought you had to add water to the vermiculite to keep it damp so it doesnt dry out? thanks

I always dump the containers after I have eggs hatch, but I incubate each clutch separately in 12 oz deli cups with no holes. I poke a really small hole on the side for aeration. I never have to add water to my vermiculite after the initial mixing of verm/water, but that could be because I use small containers to incubate clutches separately and I dump the mix out once the egg(s) hatch and don't reuse it.

I only use one container for all my eggs? Only problem is they all hatch at different times so i cant really change it every time a clutch hatches?

So how do you get the temperature right in each container? Do you have a thermometer in each? Or just measure temperature in incubator?

You can place the probe from your thermometer in a deli cup that is set-up with your vermiculite/water mix, but with no eggs to get an accurate reading of the temp inside of your egg containers.

If you use Hatchrite do you need to cover the container or can you just leave it uncovered. Perhaps with a light covering of moss or something?

Is hatchrite supposed to be so dry? Opened up the bag today, never used it before, seems really dry? Also i heard you are supposed to hava 1 tiny hole in the container?
