Well, my personal opinion is that it will be cool to have a complete black leopard gecko. But are any of these dark looking ones a line breed or a new morph? If any one can answer me this question I will appreciate it. My question is because I just bought 2 females hyper melanistic and will like to know more about dark looking geckos. These to females where incubated at normal temperatures so there is no relation of the colors of the one that I ordered and temperature. As soon they arrive I will post some pictures.

Thanks

im not sure about them either but i think black pearl is line bred so far that its pretty much acting as recessive now. and black velvet i think is line bred.
I emphasize 'I THINK'

Nobody have an answer for my question??? Well my 2 aberrant hyper melanistics are on there way. I just want to know how that 2 geckos inside a shipping box + heat pads can weight 4lbs? That is the weight of the package.

Box dimensions are what makes it equate to 4lbs... As far as melanistic or hyper melanistic I can't help you with that...

Doing a bit of research they appear to be either co-dominant or recessive.

BP X BP = produced all Black Pearl offspring

BP X Normal-looking BP siblings = produced 50% BP and 50% Normal-looking siblings

I got my info from urban gecko which appears to have gotten a exclusive on them from the original breeder of the project.

I cant wait to produce a Black Pearl Eclipse or a Black Pearl Marble Eye which also is proving out to be a new morph. We will be seeing some absolete amazing geckos in a few year as if we dont already see amazing geckos right? ;)

So this mean that they are a morph? Or just a line breed gecko? Here is a picture with flash 12 hours after received my hyper melanistic, this is how the breeder called them.

Im not too positive about hyper melanistic genetics, but if i recall correctly i belive that the Black pearl morph is a recessive trait. You should of looked it up before you acually went out and bought a pair dont you think?

I basically was confused about if it was a new morph or just a new line breed. I think that after researching a lot and watching a lot of pictures from geckos being hatched solid black and they are not directly from black pearl, I think they are line breed gecko (personal opinion). I saw some posts in this forum and other forums from the person that started working with them for the first time stating that BP's are his line breed. I am talking about threads back to 2007-2008. I still thinking that they are a great looking gecko but I also think that the Snow gene is playing a huge roll there. Why I conclude this is because doing my research and looking for dark looking geckos I went trough hundreds of breeders websites and found very dark looking snows and even found a SS for $60 that look just exactly like how a BP's will hatched. This SS was amazing because he even have solid black eyes. The reason why I bought these 2 geckos was because they are looking dark with jet black markings. One of the female looks like a brownish mix with black and the other looks a little lighter. I like geckos but I am not here to became rich from them is just I really like to make experiment and see what would happened. If you are thinking with what I am going to breed them, one will be with a Bold Stripe Mack Snow, the other with a Afghan/Halloween Mask cross. Only 2 things can happen, a good result or a failure but this happen everyday on my research group (@ UW) so it is not a big deal unless your PhD. depends on it.
