My nephew fed my leopard a firefly. I heard this is bad!

He put the firefly in the cage and I think my gecko ate it, because I tore the cage apart looking for the firefly and couldn't find it. My leopard was acting funny earlier rubbing his head on the ground and doing some weird neck motions.

Will he be OK? I gave him a warm bath ( his first bath ) and he mostly freaked out. Is there anythign I can do for him to make him OK.

Help!

They are poisonous to bearded dragons but I don't know if they will be bad for a leopard gecko. If the gecko is still OK, it's not a problem. Educate your nephew.

He seems to be OK so far I'm just scared if he will be OK or not when I wake up in the morning

I'm not sure how toxic fireflies are to leos, but bearded dragons typically die within an hour or two of ingesting a firefly. There is currently no known treatment, and the lizards often do not live long enough to be seen by a vet. All you can really do is wait and see, I hope he hangs in there.

I don't know if this helps at all...

But we visited a friend who had bought one of our blizzards hatchlings the other night and they had told us that when they went to feed the little guy, a firefly must've got into the house and ended up in the tank when they opened the lid. Little guy ran right over and tried to chow down, they got it out of his mouth I think, but he had ingested some of it. They had said he started contorting and acting strangly but made it thru the night. He looked fine when I saw him, which was a week after the incident. I don't know if size matters on this, but the gecko that did this is only 3 months old.

I don't know if there would be a difference since yours ate the whole thing, but that's at least what happened this time around.

Hopefully all is well with yours, keep us posted.

It's been 8 hours since he ate it, he's still alive and moving around normally, do you think he's OK?
