ARGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH. Healt insurance in this country is such a joke. I am sooooo upset. I just got a bill that stated preventitive car is not covered. A physical is not covered. Although I went because of a painful hydrocel(spelling might be wrong) It was billed as preventitive care. What is also not covered are shots for my new twins. We took them for their shots and got bills for $347 each(twins). Now I pay over $600 dollars a month for Insurance. Kids shots arenty covered, physicals arent covered even brand name meds ared not covered of which i have to take $175 worth a month of because they dont make generic. This is a reputable company(BlueCross) and it is all a bunch of(I want to scream profanity but wont). ARRRRRRGGHHHH! What do you do. We now have to wait for free clinics for the kids shots wich isnt bad. I wont be going to the doctor unless it is absoutly necessary, At least we have a relative that is a NP and can help with certain situations. Its just we pay all this #@$#$$%@%^%@^%# money and nothing is covered. It is just a bunch of crap. Thanks for listening

You should write a letter to the paper sometimes the companies do care about bad press.

Ohhh, that must be bad and I feel for you!

Over here in Denmark we pay rather high taxes, but all that has to do with hospitals, seeing doctors and so on is free. We pay a part of the medicines, but when we have reached an amount we only pay half of that price for the coming year...
We are also pretty good insured when we are sick and can´t go to work...we get 80% of our wages (I am not sure if it´s the right word).

But when we must go to the dentist it´s very expensive :(

Well, just hink of the costs of all of your healthcare without the insurance. Also, keep in mind that the insurance company isn't jsut going to hand out money. Sometimes you have to fight and argue with them to get it out of them. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't. For those who live in countries where they pay high taxes for nationalized healthcare they don't get as much of a bargain as they think. The money comes out of their pay and they probably don't really add it all up. There's a downside to everything. Not to mention having to wait 3-6 months to get in for an elective surgical procedure, and 3 hour waits to see a doctor. And don't even think about being ill and getting in to see your primary physician the next day. It's the hospital or nothing. Anyway, ya insurance is a pain, but that $600 a month is much less than what you would pay otherwise.... and how much did you have to pay for your pre-natal, delivery, and post natal care?

We don´t pay any extra for those things you mention...all that it also in the taxe we pay.
And I have never experience very long waiting to get things done...and if you really need, you can see your primary physican the same day, no problem.

I´ts hard to compare our different taxes and insurens...but we don´t pay 600 dollar a month for it.

I do understand that Health care in other countries is not as good as here. Oh trust me I spent almost an hour on the phone with them to no avail. It is just frustrating that not only did I pay for regular health insurance plus 700 for the kids shots add another $261 dollars for the latest visit not covered it all adds up to more than $1700 for this month alone. As for the total cost for the pregnacy after insurance coverage it was still over $2000( of which i have no problem paying). I hat to be a complainer especially when like you said it isnt as good in other places, it is just that it seems that trying to make sure that you stay out of the hospital costs you more than if you HAVE to go into the hospital in most cases. Its just frustrating to see these doctor charge $261 for a 10minute office visit to feel around my boys and say I need an ultra sound of which i havent seen the bill for yet.

Besides Just think of the geckos I could have bought with all that money. LOL. Believe me I wouldnt give up what I have just to not have as many doctors bills. I just wanted to vent a little frustration.

I come original from europe and when we moved here i counld't believe how much you have to pay for healthcare. Here you always have to think twice about if you really need to go see your doctor and if you go you better make sure what is covered and what not .

Seriously, you should write a letter to the paper explaining how Blue Cross won't cover you after you paid. Nothing will probably happen, but you see those stories occationally when something gets out in public they decide to pay to avoid the bad publicity. Especially if the paper decides to do a "bad insurance company" story.

I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield through my union at work and Anthem is a royal pain in the arse sometimes.

I needed to have a surgery on my chest. A re-constructive type that involved having two metal bars put in. They wouldn't clear it because they thought it was a COSMETIC surgery to bring the dip in my chest out and make me look more normal. We fought for months and months trying to get it approved and finally after they saw x-rays, test results and a lengthy letter from my doctor saying why I needed this surgery they approved it.

Health insurance is a joke just like gas prices. They can suck it up and take a slight loss to help people but they would rather take in as much money as they can.

You shouldn't *have* to fight to get your needs met. :main_no: What bunk. I'm so sorry for your situation. :(

You're right you shouldn't have to fight to go see a doctor so you can stay healthy. The problem is the people at the top of the ladder of these insurance companies don't care. They would rather make things complicated and keep raking in the money instead of losing some money to help people.

I live in the UK and i'm sure everyone has heard about the famous National Health Service, or No Hope Service as we fondly nickname it!!....but listening to what you have just had to put up with makes me feel very lucky. Ok the waiting lists are horrendous and we have to pay for meds and your more likely to catch a killer bug if you stay in one of our spotless hospital, but at least its free! well i pay national insurance each month at about $140 so its not totally free!

Do you have Ombudsman out there? Can you not complain to them? Do you have a choice of insurances? Sorry but i'm not sure how your system works out there.

Good luck anyhow.
