Heat cable questions

Ok, I am going to be building a rack soon cause I think it would be much easier to care for my lizards in a rack set up then inside my vision cages.
I have a few questions about heat cable.
My rack will be built out of wood like most of the ones I have seen pictures of and I was wondering.
1. Do you use a router so you can set the cable into groves so they sit more flush?

2. And if so is there any chance of fire? Of course I will be having the heat cord set on a thermorstat.

3.; Also do you use one heat cable for the entire rack or 1 for each shelf?

4. And do you use some kind of tape inbetween the heat cable and the wood and do you use any on top of the heat cable so the plastic tubs arent sitting directly on the cable?
thanks for your answers in advance.

1. yes
2. the chance of fire is pretty small
3. i have one for my entire rack, depends on the size of your rack really.
4. you can use the aluminum foil tape under or on top of the cable. i have some strips on top of mine to keep it from popping up
