Hi there,
Since there is no way I'm getting this stupid flexwatt working I'm going to sell it really cheap at the next reptile show I go to and I already orderd heat cable (zoomed) It's pre-wired (thank god). Now questions;

Does it need a thermostat?
Does it heat accordingly?
Do you use it?
Do you like yours?

Thanks.

i do not use the heat cable however i plan to when i build my new rack...yes like any heating element you will need a thermostat and it will heat accordingly it seems as others recommend it and some commercial rack builders send it with their racks.

Yes. You need either a thermostat or a rheostat. You can make a rheostat from a dimmer switch for less then $10. Not sure how much one is at a local pet shop, probably about $15-$25.

Does it heat accordingly?
I have one strand of 21' cable to heat a 4' tall x 2' wide rack in a temperature controlled room inside the house. The room is normally at a steady 76 degrees, and it heats the tubs to 90 degrees on the hot spot at half power.

Do you use it?
Yes.

Sort of. It works and is readily available from the local pet store when I needed it. I would prefer to use flexwatt, since its flat. The heat cable caused a little difficulties in allowing the tubs to slide and still remain without lids. I actually used some a/c tape and made 'stumps' for the front of the tub to sit on to make it even with the back which is on the cable.

Hope that helps,
Joe
