heat mat users ?

Those of you who use the heat mats/pads, have you used the 4 paws brand heat mats? I keep seeing them but they state glass only. Will they work with the bins?

The ZooMed ones state the same thing. I thought I had heard they will melt the bins, but someone on this site said that they work just fine on the bins as long as a thermostat is used. I assume it is the same for those?

I have a few UTHs made by four paws, they work great for tanks, never used them for anything else. Are you needing it for a rack or just one bin?, if you need it for just 1 bin, you could stick it to a piece of glass and put the bin ontop of the glass. I did that in the past for a snake and it worked good.

Bins. I use the zoo med mats mainly but have seen a few sales on these and just wondered about them. I'd switch to flexwatt, but I'm more comfortable with the reg mats.

As long as you control the UTH with a t-stat or r-stat it may work with a plastic bin. I can't swear to it but I beleive ZooMeds UTH says to only use it on glass cages, so that would rule out use on bins. But I would assume for safety reasons that no matter what type of heat source you are using you should something to control the heat. If you were to use a UTH on a plastic bin without a controller, I would think it would melt it.

I can't help you there. IMO to be safe I would just buy one made for use with reptiles. $25-50.
