Heat matts

Hi, i got a new Leopard Gecko 3 weeks ago. She is 14 weeks now. The heat matt thats in her tank didnt go up to the correct temp and was staying at 23 c, so got a new one and that one is doing the same but only going u to 24c

The gecko is now not eating and noticed that her tail is quite skinny, but she does seem lively!

I have a 2 foot wooden vivarium, could that be the problem??

Can anyone suggest anything please, all advice is muchly appreciated!!

That's much too cold for her, which is why she's not eating because she cannot digest her food at all. They need a ground temp at one end of the tank to be 90F or 32C. You'll need a thermostat from Amazon such as Hydrofarm to get the temp up ASAP, and if it still won't go up then you're buying a bad heating pad.

The two foot tank is fine.

Wooden vivs need to be heated from the inside usually. I don't have any experience with wooden cages, but I believe people usually use a combination of a heat pad made for in-cage use and something like a ceramic heat emitter attached to the top.

I've moved this thread to the correct location. Please try to post in the appropriate sub forum (the "general site . . ." is the first forum listed but not usually the appropriate one).

A thermostat cannot get the heat higher than what the mat will produce without it, The idea of looking at other threads concerning the wooden enclosure is a good one. You could always put in a false floor: cut a piece of glass or plexi to fit the bottom, install the heat mat on the underside, raise it from the true floor by about 1/4" to vent the heat, install and cover with substrate.
