Heat pack or no heat pack?

I'm shipping geckos next week. The low here is around 40-46 degrees at night. The highs are around 60+. I will be dropping off the geckos around 5:30pm. In the past, they usually leave Chicago by 10pm (guessing it will be in the upper 40's to low 50's at that time). The place I'm shipping to is in the 80's during the day. Should I use a heat pack because of my temps or not? I'm worried about overheating for the temps there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

in my thoughts
My opinion would be to use a roomier box and to place a hot pack at the top with the "red line" taped 1/3 of the way OR to double box it with all the geckos in deli cups in the inner box and the heat pack in the outer box.

In those conditions, I wouldn't use a heat pack. IMO, there's a high potential it'll do more harm than good. Oh, and that goes for both directions.

Thanks for the replies guys... Edgar I was thinking of using a bigger box and placing the Heat pack at the complete oposite end and wrapping it really good.... But on the other Hand I Agree with Maurice and I know that too much heat will do alot more harm then the cold...

I talked to a friend and breeder who also lives in Florida and he suggested using a 40 hour heat pack and starting the heat pack just minutes before i go to ship it out because it takes some Time before it heats up...

But even then if i drop the package off at 5:30 it usually doesnt depart until 10pm and by then i am sure the Heat Pack would be Cranking...

This is why Kristi and i would like some Input from everyone...
I am seriously Debating on Just Driving up there Myself Kristi... I need a Vacation Anyway lol :main_laugh::main_laugh::main_laugh:

Thanks Mel! That sounds like a good idea. It looks like the low now is 40 at night with a high here of 70 during the day. I love these warm days. I just wish the nights would warm up so I didn't have to worry about the different temps.

Update: Need advice again.

Sorry about this. We're not shipping until next week now. The temps here next Monday/Tuesday are much better.

Monday is 69 high, 50 low.

Tuesday is 65 high.

Does this change anything? Would it be safe to ship with the normal box w/styrofoam and no heat pack now? I'm not sure the exact temp to where I'm shipping, but it seems like it's been in the 80's there. I'll know the exact temp closer to the shipping date. The box leaving here should be out of Chicago by the time it gets to around 55 degrees Monday night.

Thanks for your help.:)
