Its getting pretty hot over here where I live and the tank is getting really hot, I have turned off his light and it has cooled it down a little bit but its still fairly hot, is it ok to have his light off for extended periods of time?

They don't really need light, so it's fine. Another solution is to get an under tank heater and hook it up to a thermostat. With the thermostat set to 92 degrees, if the floor of the tank gets that high because of the weather, the heater just shuts off. My geckos are mostly hanging out on the cool side since it's been humid and in the mid '80's this week in New England.
