Heating issue

Hey, guys!

I ended up jumping in a little head first in getting some leos and I need a little help!

I have some under tank heaters that I believed had thermostats or rheostats built in. Unfortunately, neither of them did. Well, when checking the temperature it's on the high side reaching mid to upper 90's which I know is NOT good. These babies are young as well. I have some thermostats on the way, but won't be here until the beginning of next week. Will they be okay with the extra heat for a few days or is this something that needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY? If it does need to be addressed, do you all have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum! add an extra layer between them and the pad. there should already be glass but maybe add a tile or a sheet of cardboard or something to keep them from getting too hot.

Thanks for the warm welcome! It's been a while since I had leopard geckos, so It will be nice to be part of a community that loves 'em!

Ya know... I feel like an idiot for not thinking of that. Lol. Simple enough! I have one enclosure with tile as the substrate and another with the reptile carpet (will eventually add tile as well, I'm a big fan of how it acts and cleans) I can put some cardboard under the tile on the hot side of the first enclosure and under the carpet of the second. That should work wonders!

Thanks, buddy!

I took your advice and got some cardboard under the tile and repticarpet. On the tile there is ONE little spot that jumps up to 95 (maybe 1"x1"). The rest of it is between 86 and 90 on the warm side with a smooth gradient to the cool side. I don't like that one spot, but since the rest of it is very well balanced, is it safe to chalk that one spot up to uneven heating until I get the thermostat? I can monitor it thoroughly throughout the day, that's not a problem.

Thank you! I promise, I'm not just being lazy. lol I have some pretty severe back issues, it's painful to be up for longer than 30 - 60 minutes on a regular basis. I'll do what I gotta do to get these babies in tip top shape, but good lord, it takes a lot of rest in between.
