I just bought my zoomed undertank heating pad and its seems really weak, could it be defective? Should I buy a new one? It doesn't seem to heat up the sand at all and its built for 50 - 60 gallons put onto my 29 gallon

Get rid of the sand.

The heating pad only needs to cover 1/3 of the tank.

Buy some reptile carpet, or use some paper towel.

How hot is it too the touch? And they bury down don't they? So they are probably getting a little closer to it.

Well, your body heat is at around 90 to 93 at the surface... If the heat pad feels warm, your heat pad is warmer than your body temp... See where I am going with this???

in my thoughts
I would get a thermometer(digital) and check the temperatures to see if they are warm enough before returning it. Check on top of the sand and as well as a little deeper to see what the "borrowing" temperatures are.

Thermometer!!!! I used the "similar to body heat" thing with my leo for the first month, and when i finally got a thermometer, my estimations were way off!
