SO I finally got around to giving cleo a UTH and the ground is about 95 degrees farenheit.... I thought this was necessary but now he just wont stay in his hide which is on the side with the heater... the heater doesnt cover the whole ground of the tank. I am enjoying being able to see him finally but he seems to be avoiding the heat. Any suggestions? Is this hurting him? Or maybe its because he hasnt had one for 2 months... Can someone please tell me? Additionally is it ok to use paper towels in his moist hide?

Well i just got a UTH as well and my gecko seems to be more active and not satying in his hide as much but i do think that you should lower the tempatures to 88-92 degrees instead of 95

Well I just witnessed something even stranger (at least to me I might just be an idiot  ) but I was looking at him and he appeared to yawn! :main_huh: Now before you bash me for saying such a thing, I do not know if geckos yawn or not... but in my experience with anoles they open their mouth and shut it in a such a manner like they are yawning as a sign of wanting help or in pain. Was he just yawning or is this hurting his feet? He has now retreated to his cave but he keeps going out and coming back in. Is he coming out because he is happy with his new surroundings or maybe he is scared and burning? :main_huh: Please help asap I love my animals and cant stand to think one is hurt.

my gecko yawns sometimes too, i dont know if they are supposed to or not but Callista is perfectly healthy so I dont think there is any harm to it but I would lower the temp to 88-92 like larry26 said. It may be too hot for him.

95F is actually not too hot. I have always kept my leos at 95/96F and they are healthy - no burns, no ill effects. Now, if your temps are over 100F I would worry, but 95 is fine in my opinion (some people like it cooler but trust me, 95 won't hurt them.)

I have noticed my geckos yawn from time to time and I don't think it's abnormal. Make sure that your UTH only covers 1/3 of the bottom of your tank and that your leo has a place to escape the heat.

Also, paper towels work fine in the moist hide. Just keep them moist because I noticed they tend to dry out more. :) Don't worry, you're doing great.
