I have a 30 gallon aquarium that I wanted to turn into a leopard gecko house.
It is 25.5 inches tall. I do not have a screen cover for this and wanted to make sure that the gecko would not be able to get out of it. I understand they cannot climb up glass, but I just want to make sure it would be safe. I thought if it could be kept open, it would be easy to clip on a heat light if need be. I plan on using a heat pad for the bottom with some kind of slate/tile on top of it. 2 hide homes, 1 moist and 1 dry, and a water dish. Also, I don't have any animals that would try to get in the tank! Thanks for your help.

If you have no animals (as you say) and nothing they can climb like a hammock, you're probably fine. If you want, you could always buy some screen, attach velcro around the edges, put velcro around the top edge of the tank and you'll have instant cage cover.

Thanks for the idea. I didn't think about velcro!
I guess once I get the tank set up, I can see how high it ends up. A top would be nice for extra security.

I would only worry about a top cover if you think your gecko can get out, if you use a heat lamp, or if you need to keep pests/pets out.
A simple and somewhat proffesional looking cover can be made using 2x4's and metal window screen.(Screen should be metal and screen without protective coatings are recommended.
