Which do you prefer?

I currently have a Herpstat with no problems, but I'm looking at getting a second thermostat.

Helix. :) Price isn't much different...I guess it's just personal preference. But we are going with Helix controls on everything.

Also, if you get a Helix, the Beanfarm is the best place to get it. The shipping is cheaper and they give you the option of different types of shipping. We looked at lllreptiles, helix controls website, NS reptiles, and the beanfarm. And the beanfarm is the best place to get it, because of the difference in shipping between all of the companies. It may be different for you because you don't live in FL, but just check out all of their shipping prices.

Herpstat. They are very good, and the makers are quick. They have many options and don't have the overkill rep that helix's have. I just wish they made one for my air conditioner.

I have a herpstat, with no problems. I have noticed helix is big time, but Im wondering What exactly makes it better than my herpstat?

Does anyone know if Herpstats are any more "precise" than Helix. I use Helix therms. for my racks but have a Herpstat that I intended to use for a home-made incubator soon. Mine is currently packed away, but I thought the Herpstats specs. mentioned something about a 0.1 deg accuracy?

John: What's the difference between Helix and Herpstat in reference with Heat tape?

I haven't had any problems with my herpstat, it just seems that so many of you guys use the helix, and I'm more interested in the machanics of the thermostat versus the appearance. If it works and works well and happens to be ugly, that's fine with me.

I've looked at the stats for both, but when it comes to machines I'm illiterate, so any help is appreciated.

well alot of people I have talked to told me Helix works better for the heat tape then the others. Some are just reptile hobbiest and some are small breeders. I was just passing that bit of info along.

Thanks Paul,

Thanks for the spec. sheet! I see it has a 0.1125 internal resolution and +/- 0.9 accuracy. I'm not so sure what the significance is of the "internal resolution" but at 0.9 accuracy it may not be any better than a Helix for an incubator application.

I run my racks with them and don't see why a sealed incubator with sealed egg containers would fluctuate too much on one (egg temps)

Paul,

Very true! I have also wondered how critical incubation temp. fluctuations really are anyway? If temps. varied by even +/- 2 full degrees F, would there be any problem? I'm guessing not.

Thanks again,
Glenn

Honestly, I hate helix bad experience with it. Herpstat I love I have tried helix on 1 rack and herpstat on 1 rack. Both do the job but my helix went down to 86' when I had it set for 90', herstat ethier 89' or 90'.
