Hello Geckoforums.net,

I'm primarily a snake owner, but a friend who deals in crested geckos let me handle one at a reptile show last summer. I was concerned that the crested geckos were too quick for me, but I began researching them. I guess I spent about two months researching cresties and setting up a cage. When I was happy with the setup, I bought a crested gecko that my dealer friend had raised. Here's her latest picture.

She was about 17 grams when I bought her in September, and she's grown to about 32 or 33 grams. She seems heavier than some others that I've seen, but I hope she's not too far overweight.

She currently lives here

I'm thinking very strongly of replacing the Misty Mountain volcano. While I like the fog effect, the fogger doesn't seem to be a very robust piece of equipment, and the reservoir empties quicker than I would like. (I put the fogger on a timer to mist the cage a few times a day. I don't keep a constant mist.)

I may be looking for a boyfriend for my girl in the next few weeks to few months. My breeder friend has also offered stud services, but I saw a red dalmation at another dealer's shop recently. I'd really like to have a red dalmation.

I'm famous for wordy posts, wordy questions, long explanations of things that I'm trying to do, trying to do things that are a little different from what others are doing, and excessive worry about my animals.

Welcome to GeckoForums.net, Bill! That cage has to be a b@#$% with regard to upkeep though, or? None the less, very aesthetically appealing. Kudos! :)

Welcome to the forums! You have a really nice setup there. I've been thinking about getting a crested, but haven't decided yet.

I don't think it's all that hard to keep up with the cage. The only real problem is the volcano. Getting the volcano in and out of the cage is a problem because of the cords. For the standard cleaning, I can easily remove everything except the purple coleus and the volcano. I take everything else outside, spray a little chlorohexidene on it, and let it soak for a few minutes. I spray the cage walls, volcano, and purple coleus as well. I then use the spray nozzle on the garden hose to rinse everything thoroughly. If anything is still adhering to any of the cage furniture, the hose will blast it off. I then use a pressure sprayer to rinse the cage walls and remaining furniture with water. I use a sponge to soak all the excess water from the bottom of the cage. I have two carpets for the floor, so I switch them. I clean the recently used carpet in a bucket with a little Woolite fabric cleaner and rinse it thoroughly. The whole process takes about an hour.

That is the kind of set up I hope to achieve. Thanks for showing it off. Is that the 12x12x18 terrarium?

It's the 18x18x24 terrarium. I wanted to give her a little extra climbing room and have room for more accessories, so I went with the bigger cage.

Just curious, how much was the exo-terra terrarium with the open front doors. I've been looking online like crazy for the price, but couldn't find it.
