Hello,

I am relatively new to having gecko's. I have only had them about a year. I need some help. I bought two gecko's and they were both sexed as females. They have been housed together since I got them when they were babies. I have sexed them as well, and also thought that they were both females. Well, I went camping and came home lastnight, and found the one of them had laid two eggs. The other "female" rolled one of the eggs before I could get it out of the cage. By the time I got both of the eggs out, and into an incubator one of the eggs looks really soggy and has an indention in it. The other one looks good. Basically I don't understand how if I have two females they can lay eggs, and I don't know if the other egg should be discarded or if it might be ok. PLEASE HELP!

Females will sometimes just lay infertile eggs without ever having been around a male. If you're positive that both are females, then I'd just toss the eggs and not worry about it. They're no good if they haven't been fertilized.

So, does that mean that she is ready to breed? I have a male in another cage, but he seems quite larger than she is and I have been afraid because I was trying to get her to grow before I tried to breed them.

Could simply mean she's just hit puberty. In that case, you could liken her to a middle-high schooler. She's capable of reproducing, now, but you want her to grow up a little more first. I won't breed them til they're about 65g and at least 20 cm long.

so, it is a few weeks later and I came home to a surprise lastnight. My "FEMALES" were mating. Yes, I guess the one was a male after all. Just wanted to let you know. Thanks for all of your help!
