Hi everyone. My name is Jason and I am starting to do my research so I can get a crested gecko. I picked up a exoterra setup from a yard sale because I wanted to try something new. I have done reef tanks the last few years and my kids want something they can play with. I have the tank with an insert and water fall. I also have a misting system and some drift wood in there. Just trying to get as much info as I can before trying to bring something home. I am going to a reptile expo on May 2nd so that's my short goal of it. Im a total noob at this so please dumb it down for me. uploadfromtaptalk1429560877620.jpg here is my starting point. Thanks

Welcome, is that water in the bottom ? If so I would suggest replacing it with a substrate of coco and sphagnum moss as crested are more of a forest specie.

I had to Google what that was. Its actually there at the base of the drift wood. There is only a small area for the water.

If you're going to be feeding crickets or roaches it's likely that they will drown in the water and stink, so consider that as you figure out how to set up.

Ok so quick update. I did end up getting a crested gecko after being so torn by the many options. I really like the gargs so I may do another setup after I see how this goes for a while. I took the advise of those more experienced and actually got a whole new habitat. No water at the bottom (except her water bowl).
I met an awesome guy from my area that breeds cresteds and was super helpful. He are some pics of "Porky" our new family member.
Ok well I cant seem to upload them

Little update, i added a auto mister to the tank and am going to try some new food options. I tried crickets in a separate cage while i was cleaning her house and she wants nothing to do with them. I have been using Pangea food and it's been so so. I see and have been cleaning poop so i guess she is eating a little. I am gonna try Repashy next and also these little fruit cubes I saw at Petco. I might also hit up my reptile expo and try a few roaches to see.
Any other suggestions?

It's a good idea to try these things. Sometimes crested geckos don't seem to be eating anything, but they keep growing and pooping so you have to take it on faith!
