Hi my name is Emilie and I have owned reptiles ever since I can remember :) About 4 years ago I got my first leopard gecko and I fell in love. I currently have 11 leopard geckos and have started preparing to breed some of them. Although I've learned quite a bit about them through owning them and making connections with some well established breeders and lots and lots of research I realize that I still have a lot that I can learn and a lot to prepare for the upcoming breeding season :p Specifically, I hope to get a better understanding of all the genetics of this breed :dizzy2:

I'm currently a senior studying animal physiology and behavior at ASU. During my first two years there I took part in a research project with arizona black rattlesnakes. It involved a lot of field work to find evidence of kin recognition in these snakes as well as care of the lab snakes that were being observed in color studies as well as the kin studies :)

That's all the interesting things I can think of to say right now so... there you go :) I'm excited to get to know people on this forum and to learn as much as I can :main_thumbsup:

and here's one of my girls just because :p

Welcome to GF. I have never gotten tired of leopard geckos either and just finished my 8th breeding season.

I'm really excited for the breeding season and I'm glad to hear that some people have stuck with it for so long :) I hear about people getting discouraged so often :/ and thank you! I've always loved reptiles and appreciate any opportunity to work with them :)

Thank you :D

I have to admit, when I was first being trained to handle and feed the rattlesnakes it was pretty intimidating, but such a cool experience :)

I've been browsing around the forum and I'm already finding a lot of really good information :D

I'm in Arizona, so there's a lot here :p I also helped out a couple times on the Gila Monster studies. I wasn't actually part of those projects but I was allowed to handle and care for them a little bit. They are such unique lizards and really interesting :)

They are definitely not very open to being handled :p They required specific handling too. They are one of only two venomous species of lizards in the world, I believe the other is the Mexican Beaded Lizard. Although they are venomous, I'm fairly certain that they aren't deadly and I read a scientific article a while back that talked about how their venom was used to create a diabetes medication. Really interesting stuff :)
