My gecko recently shed. And I noticed that after he isn't opening his left eye. It seems stuck closed. Also his nose is pink and seems bruised or sore. It isntthe healthy brown it was. It seems swollen. I know I am doing something wrong and am begging to know what. He is in a ten gallon tank, under tank heater, water dish that is large enough and has the step up so he can get into it, and a moist hide (Tupperware with paper towels on the bottom) and the tank is misted a lot. He is on paper towels and eats crickets. He hasn't been eating right recently but I didn't think much of it. He isn't getting smaller or skinnier. I don't know what to do. I can't put pictures up right now because I am on a friends comp.

Advice or remedies are desperately needed

thank you

There are 2 possibilities that I can imagine: either there is a piece of shed stuck in the eye, or there is an infection which is affecting his eye and nose area.

If it's a piece of stuck shed, it's the easier situation. Take a Q-tip, wet it with warm water and bathe the eye. If you can get it to open (without forcing it) you may be able to see the shed. If you keep bathing it a few times a day you may be able to wash it out.

If there's an infection, it could be spreading into the oral and head area. In this case, you really need to take the gecko to the vet because it will need antibiotics.

Many people say they can't afford to take the gecko to the vet, or they are teenagers and say their parents won't pay for it or won't let them. If you are in this situation, I'm encouraging you to see if there's any way you can be creative to come up with the funds to do this.

I think it might be shed skid. Because he can open it. He does when he eats and occasionally if I am making a rukus in the room. But other than that it stays closed. Could shed problems be causing the problem with his nose and upper lip? And when you say vet trips are expensive how expensive do you mean?

how often does he eat? how long has his eye been like this? and when did you first notice his nose? without this information we can't tell you exactly what your problem is. And buy expensive we mean $70-$150 starting cost. but the sooner you go the cheaper it is or the problems will get worse and will cost more.

His eye has been like this for a week and a half. His nose has been bad for a little longer 2 weeks? I just assumed it was because he was going to shed soon. But apparently not. And he eats about 15 crickets a week. I get a dozen and a half a week the petstore gives me more but some always die on me even with the cricket food water gutload chunks. And then I just give his some every day till I run out.

I really don't know what to do. I don't even knownif there are any exotic pet vets nearby. But thank you for the advice I will so some research right now
