Where are you located? Maybe someone knows a local vet! You've got to get her in!

Urates are the white stuff, which, yes, is basically concentrated pee. Reptiles don't have the sort of metabolism that can afford that much water use. Everything clears out of their system slower.

I was asking about the mealworms because if you are storing them for say, a month or more, the damp stuff you're giving them could be causing her problems. Besides, they lose nutritional value the longer they sit.

So, you are learning better now, do better now. Sure save all the samples, but take her into a herp vet today! I THINK AN EMERGENCY WALK-IN IS APPROPRIATE HERE. Ballpark for a basic exam? $35-$60. A little more for a fecal exam. She really, really, really needs to be seen, or you may not have her next week.

I will be calling my "local" vet as soon as they open (in about 3 hours) and take some time off work to get her in.

What about xrays? About how much do they cost.

I don't think the wet stuff will cause an issue. I don't leave it in that long.

Will the urates count as a fecal sample?

I hate to sound callas here but I need to budget.

BTW: The first picture in post #5 shows an aspect which would describe inaccurately how bloated she is. See the top of her for a more accurate idea.

Depends where you are from...
here (London, Ontario) it was $70-75 for a visit....plus $75 for the xray...$30 for the fecal...and then if you get any more medications it added up. Don't think this will help with the bloatness but my girl wasn't pooping so an enema was done and that was $20 for each one done.

The xrays were really nice here...they were digital so it came up instantly and by the time I left, I was told what the vet could spot in the xrays and what was the potential problem.

I wouldn't jump to surgery until you know exactly what is going on. Geckos don't do so well when they are put to sleep for the surgery and plus you are talking about tons of money. My girl just couldn't poop (and therefore did not eat) and after I left the vet...my wallet was $400 lighter. But the way I see it, it's my responsibility to keep my pets alive since I said I want the responsibility of getting one.

I just called and they can't place me until 5pm tomorrow. :(

I found the cost for my gecko is $67.37 taxes in for the visit and if needed, Xrays are $88.48 taxes in.

I'm going to try to see if I can't get her in earlier. I really worried here.

EDIT: 10:45am today! (it's 8:23 right now where I am)

I will update here as soon as I get back. I'm very curious to know what this is.

Awesome that you can get her in and for under $100.00. Hopefully they get the xray and find out what is ailing her... sending good vibes your way :D

I know that good ole deep stomach ache well :main_yes: I think impaction really isn't the issue simply because she did pass a squishy bit of poo... it could squishy and small for a couple reasons... impingement on the GI tract from the possible egg binding, GI stasis from lack of eating, or actual impaction or partial obstruction. The xrays will certainly tell us difinitively what you are looking at there. Good job on getting her in so soon. You're a great leo owner.

Thanks for the kind words.

Apparently, I was too late. :( My poor Sweetie passed away just before taking her to the vet. She looked very calm when she passed but whatever it was that caused this could not have been comfortable. 12 Years is not bad and it was a good 12 years.

I just found out that the vet is open on the weekends but it's not advertised. The deep stomach pain has changed from worry to sadness and guilt.

Let this be a lesson for all that read this. Vet care beats the flying f*ck out of this feeling. Get them in to a vet ASAP. Looking back, I can't believe I didn't notice her issues sooner and I wouldn't have even mentioned money.

Thanks again for all of your help and kind words. I hope to be back in the game someday soon with this major lesson learned.

Sad day. :( Rest in peace Sweetie. You'll be missed.

Awww I am so sorry that she passed. You're right tho 12 years IS a heck of a long time to spend together. Sometimes it's hard to see changed in our animals when we see them every day but you took action as soon as you noticed it wasn't getting any better which is I'm sure what many of us would have done. I don't mean to sound morbid but have you considered a necropsy (an animal autopsy) just so you have piece of mind as to what it was that afflicted her? It could help ease some of the guilt you're feeling right now. I'm sure that when you're ready to get back into the leo game that there will be many many pretty new friends to pick from. I got my leo frm one of the breeders on the forum and don't regret it one bit. Maybe if there is a next time you could try a male... mine was, my first leo, and the whole egg binding thing worried me so I def didin't want a girl.

Again tho... so sorry for your loss and RIP lil sweetie.

Oh, no...
I am so sorry your Sweetie is gone...12 years is a long time, I had my cat for 13, and I still miss her...

Take your time, but don't stay out of the leo game.
I second the necropsy notion, then you could know what happened. My 9-year old gecko girl just went downhill fast one month, and was gone by the end of it...it may have been old age for your Sweetie.

My condolences for your loss.

Thanks to both of you.

I don't think the necropsy will make me feel better. I understand the idea of it and I would gladly do it if it wasn't my gecko for so long but I've learned those symptoms. If it happens again, get to the vet sooner than later.

@Dog Shrink... Which breeder did you get your new one off of? I haven't been able to find anyone local here who breeds them for a while (not that I am in a huge hurry).

Oh no!! Poor little girl. *hugs* 12 years is HUGE! At least you got 12 years of memories to look back on.

I didn't think the necropsy would make me feel better either cause the outcome would still be the same and I couldn't deal with the picture of my girl being cut open. But looking back, it still bothers me how she passed. So I would really consider having one. I know for me, it was really annoying not knowing what actually caused the death but it's all personal preference.

My condolences though. And maybe a congrats on the 12 years together. I hope mine will reach that number one day :)

I actualy got Eros from an awesome breeder named Adam with Gecko Euphoria. Pretty sure he's in Utah. I had to have Eros shipped but it all went very smoothly. Eros was eating heartily within 3 days. I can't recommend him enough. Also Ray with designer geckos has an awesome line of giants but he's a bit more pricy but fabulous stock, just like many of the breeders in the sponsor section above. Lots of beauties to pick from when you're ready if you don' mind sipping your le (which is very safe by the way but a lil pricy since they need to ship express overnight.

I just wanted to share a bit piece with you all. It's a memorial plaque I made with our laser engraver. I'll be putting this where I bury her.

R.I.P sweetie. im so sorry for your loss. i love the plaque made me cry a little, such a great idea
12 years is a great age! average for a captive gecko is only 10 years so she must have been verry happy.
