Hi Ive bought a new exo-terra tank for my crestie a couple of days ago.
The thing is it can get pretty cold out here sometimes the temps are around 72F most of the time but if it gets colder I'd like to plug something like a ceramic heat emitter in as well which will be controlled by a thermostat. Does anybody have any ideas how to heat it except a heatmat? Here it is:

Now I'd like to use a infrared/ceramic heat emitter. But of course I don't want the little thing to be able to get near it and burn itself (nearly 4 monhts old so still pretty tiny) Any ideas of a safe way to use these?
I thought of putting it in a reflector on top of the tank like I did with my UV as you can see in the pic. But then Im worried about the Top Screen getting too hot in case he decides to walk on the ceiling :p
Help please any ideas/advice appreciated.

Brenda, it looks like your came with a fitted top for a light fixture. If that's the case I'd go with getting a low wattage moon glow lightbulb. I'm using exoterra's light fixture on mine & the heat temps are fine.

Those moonlights are nice. I would get the lowest wattage you could find to bump the temp up a bit. I think those Exo-terra hoods will hande up too 26 watt bulbs. I have seen the Moon light bulbs for 25 watts. They might be the long skinny ones.

I have had my crestie in a planted exo terra tank for the past year and a half. I would guess that at it's coldest the house gets to 60-65 at night. During the day I have 2 lights on top, a flourescent and an incandescent. There are 2 lights to benefit the plants, and one of the is incandescent to provide some heat. I use no extra heat at night and it hasn't been a problem. I also use no heat at night for my p. klemmeri day gecko who comes from a more tropical environment (she's in a 12x12x12 exoterra) and she's been fine. My gold dust day gecko who's in a much larger tank and also nearer to a window does have 2 red heat bulbs which I keep on 24/7 during the cold season.

In the summer, I have a 10 gallon tank in the basement where the crestie goes on the hottest days.
