btw - should i put warm water into the plastic liner like it says for chickens? or just put random containers of water into the incubator for humidity?

Ranco - yes, you can plug the hobovator into the ranco and use the ranco sensor. Turn the hobovator wafer all the way up so it would tend to be on all the time and then the ranco can control it. THe only thing to be aware of, is that as I understand it, the ranco is not a proportional thermostat, but an on/off thermostat. The temps will be more stable with a proportional thermostat. THere's one for a good price at Big Apple Herp

Water - the best thing to do is to fill a large ziploc with water and put that into another ziploc in case it springs a leak. Lay the ziploc on the very bottom of the hobovator and put the wire "floor" on top. Put the egg containers on top of that. The water will stabilize your temps. Don't just pour water into the incubator.

You will want to control the moisture in the egg container media, not really the whole incubator. Hope that makes sense.

Actually, putting the water bags in the incubator is more for stabilizing the heat than adding humidity. For correct humidity in the egg containers, water is added directly to the incubation medium.
