There are so many legal issues surrounding a minor (under 18) handling venomous reptiles, let alone keeping them. Maybe it's like comparing apples to oranges, but similar situations occur with guns. Parents are responsible for what their children do, and I've yet to see any 16 year old not succumb to peer pressure in the right situation. A kid can be pressured into showing off their venomous snake just the same as they can be pressured into showing off a loaded gun.

Sorry Rmallory, for the off topic post.

I see that it was an incredibly brainless, unintelligent, and very rushed out answer on my part, with absolutely no thought or time put into it, and I'm still incredibly sorry for that. I know that we are all here to help and learn from each other, and that a reptile's health and wellbeing, along with solid, professional information given for help, is everyone's top concern, as it should be. I did not mean, in any way, shape, or form, to give incorrect or misleading information that could potentially jeopardize the animal's health or future.

I hope that I am to be forgiven for my mistakes.

brainless

No.

unintelligent

No.

very rushed

Maybe.

I hope that I am to be forgiven for my mistakes.

Pffft. You don't owe anyone an apology, nor is anyone in a position to grant you some kind of absolution. You knocked out a quick answer with good intentions. It's even one that's situationally correct, since a 55 gallon tank adds new concerns when it comes to heating and habitat arrangement and a lot of people fail to prepare them properly. It just didn't happen to be totally accurate, all the time. I dunno about any other threads, but if you don't make a habit of it then it's just something to think about when you come across a subject where you're not certain.

Can't argue with you there, but to be fair to him, he doesn't even let people go into his reptile room, let alone convince him to do something risky with an animal. The only time those animals are viewed by people other than him and maybe his parents is at educational events. Not all 16 year olds are made of the same stuff.

I understand and I'm sorry, to you and the op. I do not mean to be ignorant. I also understand because of my age that I am inferior to older, more experienced people here and I'm not perfect. I think I'll be taking a break from this website for a while.. evaluate my knowledge and think things through a bit... once again, I'm very sorry.

dont be silly Carly! you are NOT inferior to ANYONE!!! i dont care how old you are! i think it is great that you are on this forum, it is a great place to learn, and i dont want you to take a break, unless you WANT to! this is a good forum, but i think it just gets out of hand from time to time. i meant NOTHING negative about my post. i just would like to see people that may not know the answer, not to answer it just to answer it...seems like alot of that on this forum, and its NOT just you! i totally encourage you, and ALL younger herpers to get on sites like this and participate!!! i should have explained more about what i meant when i said you were 15, and that at that age(i am still this way!!! and im 34!)...you are very passionate and want to help. just seems like you have the bug, and that is totally great, but if you dont know the answer, research it, THEN answer it...thats all. you seem very smart to me, and obvioulsy passionate...and that is great. i would hate to see you not be on here because i was not more clear with my explanation...dont leave. i have not read any other post yet, after yours that i quoted above, but stick it out and im sorry if i came off harsh. i just get aggrivated when people give silly answers, and my frustration with this issue came LONG before you Carly...so dont even worry about it! stick around and learn with the rest of us....i still learn alot on here everyday, and i have been at this for a while. sorry if you took what i said wrong, i should have read it again and re~worded it before i posted it..didnt realize i didnt elaborate on the age comment.

I appreciate your words immensely, thank you. I understand 100% of what you say, as well as where your frustration came from, and fully admit that I had taken it the wrong way previously. I'm sorry to have caused such a fuss about this. You don't need to apologize, you had a good reason to be angry. Let's all just move on... :)
