hi im bella. i had a Leopard GEcko for 2 weeks. i try taming him. he takes food from me. he is really scared to eat so he just hides. when i pick him up, i gently push him to my hand, he'll stay in my hand and sometimes he jumps off my hand and falls on the floor! Please HELP ME! i want a gecko i can hold and that loves me!

Hi Bella, im also new here but if u have only had your gecko for 2 weeks its probably still warming up to you, i would take handeing slow and try not to stress him out with over handerling just let it get used to slowly and im sure he will be a fine companion :)

I noticed that too. they are wrong alot. One day when i was looking at lizards i might wanna by, there was a red-headed lizard and they said you can barely handle them cause they are too fast. when i adopted my collared lizard 2 days ago, i held a red-headed lizard and it was nice. i was about to buy him! well its ok if it takes awhile for him to adapt to me. I would think he would be shy becaue he was in a cage in a storage closet. with only 3 other geckos. it was all they way in the back so nobody could see him.

2 different subjects to follow up on here;

1. People at the petstores are in it for the buck, it's their duty, they've been trained to sell their products. In some cases you have the honest retailer who will tell you whats up (example. This tokay gecko is looking a little skinny, his feet are also not sticking as well) These are the people that you wanna look for in the pet trade.

2. On another note, you gecko isn't a dog, who will pick and choose who's alpha and whos a playmate. They can learn your smell, and i've heard some of the phesulma species learning the voices of people. What i'm getting at is your reptile isn't going to stop digging if you say "no digging". They do have feelings and you're able to read their body language, but discipline or orders will never fly.

Concluding, your leo could possibly take 2months + to get used to his terrarium, a new owner, and new smells. Put yourself in her shoes, are you going to be happy go lucky the first day of school? You'd probably like to get comfortable first.

hope this helps

+1
That is a great way to look at it, some may be sooner and some just take a while, but atleast u get to know which ones are the confident/dominant geckos, my brother got his one a week before mine (2 weeks ago) and already he eats of his hand.

try taking an old tee-shirt something you've warn or slept in and putting it over his tank. Also cover 3 sides of the glass with black paper so that only the front is open, make sure he has plenty to hide under, and leave him alone for a few days, feed him at dusk or right before u go to bed. drop a few crickets in his tank and he will wag his little tail as he hunts them. When you take him out sit on the floor with him, let him walk over ur hands close to the floor so if he drops he wont get hurt. make sure there's nothing on the floor he can get under if he runs. try having a friends or family member sit across from you with ur feet touching theirs so that there is a play pen made from your legs.

Its not that hes mean, he is scared this is all new to him! and to you. dont give up on him. no pet will love and cuddle you from the very get go, just like ppl they need time. How much time no one can predict exactly. Putting ur shirt over the top screen of his cage will make it so his cage (his safe place) smells like you. this will acclimate him faster but isn't a cure all~ he requires ur time, and patience.

Most of all Enjoy him! Geckos are wonderful pets when they get to know u better, and make great company while ur watching TV doing your homework, or just chillin in your room :)

Yeah I had one like that, he was mean and bit me a few times when i first got him. it just takes time. every gecko is different like us, no two has the same personality. Is this your first reptile pet?

my leo is just got used to me about 2 weeks ago. he is 3 months old, i just kept picking him up for like 5-10 min a day. and because my parents are divorced i only got to hold him maybe like 4 times a week. if he squirms when u pik him up, its ok. it will get used to you. my leo just stopped squirming when i pik him up

Hi Bella, welcome to GF.
I brought Blaze as a male being as i'd had teo normal males before and after a week of having her at 6mths old checked the ID, i'd got a female.
She was stubborn and very quick for me on the first couple of days but i've always picked my leo's up from the back just by their arms and i managed to get her on the 3rd day and everyday i fuss her and when it comes to cleaning her out everyday she's the most idol leo i've come across.lol
