hi,
i just got a 4-6 week old crested gecko. i have an exo terra tank 12x12x18. it set up with vines, hides and everything it needs. the question is do i keep the baby in there (it seems so big for this little baby to be in) or do i keep it in a smaller tank like a 7 gallon tank with vines and hides in it until it get bigger. and what would be the best food for him also. i heard a bunch of foods that are good but not sure. and how fast is their growth rate? please help! thank u

A baby that young could be kept in a small crix keeper and upgraded as he gets bigger. I only feed the crested gecko diet, with meal worms and crix every once in a while. You could try mixing baby food in with the crested gecko diet to make it seem more apitizing to him.

I have juvie cresties in rubbermaid tubs with tops with screen its a 6qt tub. I put fake plants in there and i have paper towel as a substate. thats a little big for a 4-6 wk old crestie the exoterra. as far as Crested gecko diet you can feed it exclusively or in conjunction with crickets or some other feeder insect of a size good for them. but crickets are the one of the healthier choices of insects. with crested gecko diet you will not see a young one eat too much of it actually it will look like it aint been touched but if they are pooping they are eatting it. i feed CGD every 3 days to my cresteds and i feed crickets at least a few times a week. I mix it only with water, I have the 2 part diet not sold in stores yet, but its the same thing as you would get from Petco/Petsmart or whatever. i dont recommend mixing with baby food it will dilute the nutrient levels of the CGD. if you dont think its eating it or think it dont really like it then try feeding it by putting it on your finger and letting it lick it off and do that a few times and it will become to like the taste the flavor of it is Banana. Good luck with your crestie they are sweet little animals. o yeah when you mix CGD with water it says on bottle 1 part CGD with 2 Parts water but sometimes its still either too watery or too thick just add a lil bit more water for 2 thick and if too thin add lil CGD, i mix it to be like a thin gravy sometimes a lil thinner

The babby will feel more comfortable in a large kritter keeper, and then upgrade to a 18x18x18 exo-terra. The 12x12x18 is a little small for an adult but would be fine for a juvie.

Like Danielle sai,d try not to mix baby food in with the CGD it will reduce the nurtritional level. You should really stay away from baby food in general.

18X18X18 definitely too big for a 2-3 month old crestie. if you want something nice looking a 12X12X12 exoterra would be okay or a large Kritter Keeper. 18in exo terra is fine for one or 2 adults. that big of a exo terra is going to be hard for the juvie to find its food. also remember to mist it at least once a day. have any pictures of your lil cresties?

If you dont see it eating the CGD it doesnt mean its NOT eating but it seems that mine like crickets a lot more. The breeder i bought mine from said all of his cresteds seem to like crickets over CGD but i still keep it available.

That is because they will go for a moving insect anytime but mostly eat cgd at night when we are sleeping;)
