Help! What to do in case of theft!

......This morning, while i was downstairs doing laundry, someone broke in to my house a stole my best friend. Not a joke. They walked into my house and stole my gecko right out of his cage. [He did not escape, i have a locking cage door thats inescapable and ive searched my whole house three times.] Its 30 degree weather up here in Washington, and i just want him to be okay. What can i do legally? will the police even help me?

Call them and tell them. They have to at least write a report and do something - you were robbed.

I'm so sorry. I can't imagine the mess I would be in if I were you. Seriously, call the police and tell them. They should send someone to your house, you can show them the tank and how he couldn't have escaped, and tell them how else you know they broke into your house.

Do you know who might of done it?, did they steal anything else but the leo?. Does anyone specifically in that building know you have a leopard gecko?. I'd be seeing red right now.

I dunno.. this seems a little unlikely..
you can file a report. but there isnt much they can do. im voting for escape or a hiding gecko.

I called both my insurance company and the police, neither will do anything about it. He's a gargoyle gecko, the only one in the front of the house, the rest of my leos are far back in my reptile room.

So its highly likely, my girlfriends mother is a complete nutcase, and this is something she would do to coax contact out of her daughter. Use him as ransom. Yeah, im serious. I have searched my entire house, and packed up everything, and i have a cat, who is a pro escapee gecko finder, and has never hurt one. I highly doubt my cat ate him either......just saying.


I just dont know what to do.......

I don't understand how the police wont do anything?. That would make me furious. Whats there excuse for not looking into this?, there getting a call of stolen property while entering private property. If you think its your girlfreinds mom Id march right to her house and see whats going on. Im just worried if she did, which i wont be surprised ive heard stories of crazy inlaws, about the well being of the gecko, you cant just take a gecko out in freezing weather.

Apparently, they have higher priority cases. Which is cow-poo, its washington! NOTHING happens here. The problem with that is the mother in law is crazy, abusive and has tried to take both our lives more then once. Marching up to her house is out of the question. Do you think he is still okay, if exposed to the elements for a short time? God, im so worried abut him, honestly, as long as hes alive and healthy and happy i dont care where he lives, i just dont want he to be out there suffering, without his favorite vine......

It also explains why i kept waking up to noises all night, and my cat freaking out. I figured most of it was a couple fellas shedding, but i guess not.

As long as it is not too cold, and the exposure time is not too long your garg should be fine. They can survive temps below 10c for a decent time. Freezing temperature is another story.

since your not a police officer you have no clue how busy they actually are. and a gecko that may or maynot have been stolen isnt a priority... it does suck. but dont be upset with the police because ofthis.

Imo, a robbery is a higher priority than writing speeding tickets, and I'll bet my ass they haven't stopped doing that.

First , it was NOT a robbery.
In order to be a robbery the item/s have to be taken by force or threat of force.

again.. you have no clue what is going on. Further, the odds of someone breaking into somones house just to steal ONLY a gecko is EXTREMELY unlikely.

I honestly think they just hear gargoyle gecko and said pft whatever which is horrible. I honestly hope everything works out for you, id be seeing red right now, best wishes to you. Keep us updated whats going on. Make sure your inlaw didnt take it before really going through with police, i'd keep trying with the police, don't let them just down you like that.

I guarantee they didnt say the would NOT come.
im sure they said when they have time they will get there.

Unless its a HUGE city.. in DAYTON Ohio you would have to file a report over the phone.

They WILL come if you ask just when they have time.
You have a right to file a police report about anything. if its a false report its illegal but you can still file it.

if your that worried. go down to the PD and file your report if you dont want to wait on them.

I see...irony lol love it. On a side note(ok maintopic note) In this case they do have higher priorities, Heres what they know. A gargoyal gecko when missing with no sign of forced entry. Do you honestly think that sounds TOP priority to them, i reccomend going down to the PD, writing a report, telling them your suspicions and then waiting. Dont forget to leave gecko traps out just in case, a hide on the ground, his tank on the ground with the lid open(do gargs climb?) and maybe a dish of mealies, these gusy can HIDE no matter how hard we look. And yes, i understand the tank has a locking lid but still.

One can always go to the Station themselves and file the report there.
