help with feeding a new gecko

Well 2 months ago I purchased a sunglo male from JMG reptiles. He told me he weighed a little over 50 grams and he ate crickets and super worms with no problem. He didn't look the weight I was told but I had heard he was a reliable breeder and he had a very nice selection of healthy looking geckos. When I got home I weighed him and he weighed in at 38.4 grams. The next day after giving him time to get used to his new tub I put a few crickets and super worms in for him to eat. He didn't pay any attention to them. I believed it was from the stress so I tryed each night for that week. After all week of no eating he had lost some weight so I started rubbing supers on his mouth and he would open his mouth and eat 2 or 3 and then refuse them. I have tryed many things but no matter what he won't eat unless I do this. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could get him eating out of bowls by himself like the rest of my leos. Could this be a seeing problem? If so how do I confirm that? Thanks for any help given.

maybe he just isnt hungry... could be going into the winter blues as well... i would really drag the seller threw the mud for it... *shrug* maybe someones scales are off... may be yours, may be his... it happens... i dont think someone would purposely sell you a "poor quality" gecko... least not a breader...

i would almost assume he may just be in winter mode... but i could be wrong... perhaps the shipping added to the stress, being force fed is kind of stressfull i would think, if its hungry it will eat... hard to beleive but its true... i have a male that was 124 grams, and he hasnt had a bite to eat for some time now, but hes plenty healthy... just winter blues... *shrug* im sure someone else can anser you better... best of luck!

Well he wasn't shipped. I picked him up at a local reptile expo. He had a warm ride all the way to his new tub. I keep my temps constant through out the year and I have the lights on timers for the same lighting year around. Wouldn't this keep him from brumation(sp)? And when they go into "winter blues" don't they keep a pretty constant weight? He lost a bit of weight in just one week. Also I don't force feed him, I have to let him know there is a superworm near him and he eats it very fast not forceful at all. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks a lot also. I might send the breeder an email.

I would strongly advise sending the breeder an email. I have found them to be very responsive in the past.

well i just gave a call to JMG. They told me that they havent been to an Indy show since 2005. I dont know if they are telling the truth or they just dont want to deal with it. I have no clue what to do.
