Hi all, new to the forum. I haven’t long acquired a pair of leopard geckos and they started to breed shortly after…. but my understanding of genetics in leo’s isn’t the greatest and I need some help IDing the hatchlings PLEASSSSEEEE!!!! The dad is meant to be a sunglow and the mum a tremper albino. To my understanding from this breeding I should get normals het.albino, hypos het.albino, tremper albinos and sunglows?

Male sunglow

Female Tremper albino

The first hatchling fresh out

and just over a month after

and the next two eggs that hatched

I do have more eggs cooking at the moment.

Any help will be appreciative :D

When you say that the male is a sunglow, do you mean a superhypo Tremper albino? In the picture, the male looks to have black spotting which means he is not an albino. Technically "sunglow" is an albino and if it's not an albino then it's a superhypo tangerine carrot tail (actually in his case "hypo" is more accurate because of those few spots on the back).

So, if he's not an albino and not het for albino, none of the babies will be albinos (and, they're not). They will all be het for albino because of the albino female. If he is het for albino, some of the babies will be albino.

Now, if he is actually an albino (and it's hard to tell from the picture but I think not), then you have a bigger problem. If the babies are not albino, then it's because you're breeding 2 different albino types (the female looks to me as if she could be a Bell albino) and that makes the babies double hets and hard to figure out which albino strain will be expressed in future generations. I imagine you need more of an explanation of what I'm talking about, but it's really late and I have a lot of gekco feeding coming up, so I'll leave it to someone else.

To me, the spots look brown (albino), but there are differences from computer screens, so I'm not saying that Aliza's wrong on this. Just giving my input on what I see.

Completely agree with her explaining the "bigger problem" though, along with the female looking like a Bell albino.

I agree with GexPex. Male looks to be a DARK Sunglow, and the female a Bell. So your babies are ALL double het which basically is a taboo in the leo world. The babies should only be sold or kept as pets due to the different albino genes they carry. This wasn't entirely your fault because you were told the female was a Tremper, but the general rule is that if you aren't 100% positive that the albino strains are the same in a breeding pair, you shouldn't breed them unless you are prepared to deal with the babies appropriately if they are not the same strain.

Also, just FYI:

Sunglow x Tremper should produce all Hypo Trempers with varying amounts of Tangerine influence

I agree that it looks like you've crossed two different albino strains. Pictures of the parents in brighter light would help folks be more positive but the spots on both look a bit more brown than black to me.
