For those of you who have a large herp collection what works for you? One large room or building or several smaller rooms.
The reason I ask is because my wife and I are going to be building a place for our expanding herp collection on our future property.
I was trying to figure what would be the most efficient as fair as energy i.e. heating and cooling. I would think smaller would be easier to control the temps , but have always envisioned one big room. Like maybe 1000sq ft.

What do you guys think is best.

1000 sq feet is huge, my house is not even that big lol

But the most I ever had at one time was about 175 adult leos and a few hundred babies, plus a few chams. I have a room in the basement that is about 18 x 20 that they were mostly in but it was toooo hard to keep warm n the winter, easy and cheap in the summer though.

It worked though since I kept breeders in the bedroom, yes bedroom, large bedroom and the hatchlings were in the basement and sold before there was a real heating the room issue.

I would LOVE to have had a greenhouse for my chams (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=15135-56172-6X10EASY2BUILD&lpage=none)

And for my leos I would have loved to have has this:

But oh well, dreams are still cool!

My dream Herp room or house rather, Would have a bathroom, a gecko/small lizard room, a snake room, a small room that would house one iguana or one sailfin dragon. and a quarantine room. Each room would have a comfy couch in it too so I can comfortably enjoy all my animals.

I suggest two rooms. A warm one and a cooler one. It becomes hard to keep hot things and cooler likeing things in the same room and keep everyone happy.
