i purchased an ap rack that uses the 1754 sterilite clearview 15qt tubs..when i purchased the tubs from target they sent me an off brand of the sterilite the problem i am having is the off brand tub has a groove the goes around the inside perimeter and the inside is raised up so the groove heats up to 107 degrees since it is touching the floor and the flat section is 91 or 92 degrees were i want it to be.. no matter where i put the tub this problem occurs just varying temps either too hot or not hot enough..also placement of the thermostat probe i have stuck it in the tub(dummy tub) and the thermostat fluctuates from 93.3-94.0 on the high side and under shoots to 89.0-90.0 degrees.( thermostat is set to 92 degrees) then i taped the the probe over the heat cable and every thing worked fine until i noticed fried crispy meal worms so i checked the temp in the groove were the mealies were and got a temp of 107 degrees...please help me!!

what are you using to determine your inside temps? what type of thermometer? try knocking those temps to 90 on the thermostat in the meantime. also what type of thermostat are you using?

i am using a mercury thermometer and a zoo med temp probe...the temps right now are 94.0 degrees in the groove and 88.3 degrees on the flat part and the thermostat is reading 91 degrees...i am using a herpstat thermostat so far i am NOT impressed

i will be buying a temp gun here soon..i didn't think that a proportional thermostat was supposed to fluctuate like this( or this drastically )

a proportional shouldn't fluctuate but maybe a degree or two either way. i would cut the temps down a bit until you can get this figured out. you can get a inexpensive temp gun at tempguns.com. let me think a bit more and get back with you on a solution. i got a bad headache right now and can't think lol
