My name is Brandon. I joined this site because I have 1 ea. Lygodactylus Williamsi male (Bill) which I have had for about a year now. I purchased him on a whim because I have been into reptiles all my life and had never heard of this species prior to finding him in a local pet store. Normally I would do extensive research before placing a creature's life in my hands, but I new that something that beautiful would not last long before someone snatched him up and I allowed the pet store employee to convince me that this was a very simple gecko to maintain. I placed him on hold for a week in order to do some preliminary research and set his terrarium up. He has done very well in the 36"X24"X16" exoterra (SP?) that I initially set up for him. I am now confident in my ability to maintain this species and am in search of a female to breed him with. My goal is to register with a breeding program in order to contribute to the gene pool and help keep this species available (legally and ethically) and genetically diverse in captivity.

Thanks,
Brandon

Welcome to Geckotalk and good luck with the L. williamsi. I have tried with them but not succeeded and have given up. That doesn't mean you will not succeed. I had a number of unexpected deaths of geckos that looked perfectly healthy. I'm really sorry I couldn't make a go of it because I really like them, but it just wasn't in the cards for me.

Aliza,

I'm sorry to hear of your issues. You could always look at it as an opportunity to pinpoint a condition, food item, etc. that is detrimental to their well being. You could be the one to discover a big "no-no" for keeping L. Williamsi. I've read of numerous people that have experienced similar issues. Maybe they all stem from similar or the same cause. If I am successful I will be sure to share all of the specifics of what I'm doing and would be more than happy to help you give it another shot. First I need to get my hands on a female.
