Ok I have a tank with sand. The leos have been in it for 5-6+ years, so I cant change it. I recently added a "Moist hide" because i cna't add a humid hide, as I don't have a UTH on it. Is a "moist hide" with slightly damp paper towels ok to use? I cant change the subsatrate or get a UTH because the geckos aren't mine. The two geckos have been hanging out in the hide ever since I have put it in there. Is this ok? It has been in there about 2 days. They come out at night, but they are in it during the day. 1 of them shed this afternoon so I took the other out of the hide to give her some peace. What is your opinion on the whole thing?

You should really talk to the owner about getting the correct set-up. I use moist paper towels or moss for my humid hides. Make sure you have separate hides if you have them housed together, too.

I have tried putting them on paper towels. They dont like it and were freaking out. They have been on sand for the last 5-6 years +. Is it ok just to use a moist hide instead of a humid hide? Is it ok that they have been hanging out in it all day?

Can do only so much

Hey, if you are minding them for another and they want them on sand.....you may have to oblige their wishes but as its been pointed out to you to pass on to them, sand is not a safe way to go.....(I love them on sand too) but I switched for "good gecko reasons".....carpet / tile........Not sure what your wet hide is but if the geckos use something you have in there, it evidently likes it. Why remove it?? Its normal for them to hide all day and hunt at night.
take care. / HJ

A moist hide with damp paper towels is a humid hide as well. It's not unusual for geckos to love to hang out in there forever. Some of mine to it too.

Although I wouldn't recomend sand I have one leo that has always been on it and is fine but I also have two others that I have on tiles and repti-carpet,as for freaking out they will do that almost anytime you do a major change to there tank. If your going to keep them on sand instead of changing to carpet then make sure you clean out there poo anytime you see any that way you know they are going and not starting to get impacted. As for the hide acpart is right a moist hide and humid hide are the same but you should have one for each leo they may be hanging out together but it may be that they are only doing it because of only one hide.put in another one and then if they stay together it's because they want to not have to.
