08 Male Hog Island boa produced by PM Herps:main_cool3:

I agree about the size thing. I dont have any boas that get 10 feet. This snake is a dwarf local of BCI and only get 4-6ft with males generally being the smaller of the two. There are other boas that stay even smaller like sand boas and rosy boas.My holdback is honestly the size. I'm a little intimidated to get into a snake that is 7-10 feet. It's not the actual handling since I'm not scared at all but it's a big animal and I'm worried about if something went wrong, you know? I have kids under 10 and I just have visions of a tagging gone wrong or him/her thinking my 4 year olds arm is a rat. I'm probably being paranoid but they are so fearless around any reptile that I have to be the caution for them. Plus, they will drive me NUTS to have it out all the time too which I would have to heavily supervise. With our ball he's small enough that as long as they stay in the room with me I don't worry.
There are a few other dwarf locals like Nics which only get like 2-4ft but they tend to have bad attitudes so wouldnt reccomend them if you want something to handle. If you do decided on a hog,be very careful on where you get it because there are alot of crosses out there. If you ended up getting a hog/columbian cross then you could very well end up with a near 10ft snake. Its important to make sure its a pure hog:main_thumbsup:I guess I need to do some more research and find a smaller variety than the ones I've been around that I like as much. 4-6 feet is defiantly within my comfort zone.
dwarfs are not hybrids or anything like that. They are natural boas but different locals have different sizes etc.. So if you get a nice CB one from a good breeder like with any reptile then there shouldnt be any health probs.Maybe I could ship the kids off to Nana for a few years if I ended up with a 10 footer. Hehe
Are there health concerns with dwarfs?
